Cano Island is about 17 km west of the Osa peninsula in the southern
Pacific. Day trips for snorkeling and diving are offered from
Drake Bay, Golfito, and Ballena National Park areas.
The island
is uninhabited except for rangers that maintain the biological
reserve. Walking trails inland from the ranger station provide
opportunities to see pre-Columbian cemetery artifacts and oceanic
rain forest.

The 300 hectare island (740 acres) includes a minimal amount of
wildlife and bird species. The majority of Cano Island is
surrounded by rocky coral outcroppings. Day trips are available
but overnight stays are not allowed.

If weather is nice and water is calm Costa Rica's finest diving and
snorkeling can be found here. Many varieties of brilliantly
colored fish and shark are present in large numbers. For this
reason, trips to Cano Island are best planned during dry season between
December through March.
