Everyone loves a waterfall ! A Costa Rica tour to a waterfall is a wonderful family adventure that rewards each family member with great memories. Some waterfalls require a long hike to see, others provide beautiful blue deep swimming holes for the entire family to enjoy.
One common trait is that they are all in rainforests! Even though Costa Rica doesn't have as many mosquitoes as somewhere like Florida due to natural predators, bring insect repellent and comfortable walking shoes.
Here are but a few of my favorites!

La Paz is located near Vara Blanca north of San José about 40 miles. This facility is available for self guided tours or can provide a tour guide.
The facility opens at 8:30am and closes at 5:30pm. The 3.5 kilometer walking trails consume about 1 - 2 hours of walking time and include a Butterfly observatory, Hummingbird garden, and bird watching areas.
There are 5 waterfalls to see and are viewed by standing on platforms affording excellent opportunities for picture taking.
This tour includes hundreds of stairs up and down mountains at about 5000' elevation. On cloudy days it can be a little cool.

The La Fortuna Waterfall is close to the Arenal Volcano. It is a great time as is the entire Arenal area. The waterfall is an easy hike and includes swimming for the whole family.
Tours are widely available to get you there, in, and back. The actual entrance fee is paid to a non-profit organization which uses the money to improve the area.
Horseback riding to the falls is also an option if less walking is desireable. There is a 15 minute hike down a usually muddy path to reach the swimming area.
The falls area opens at 8:00am and closes at 4:00pm.

This waterfall is located near Manuel Antonio national park in the Central Pacific coastal area. I love this whole area. If you have never been there it is worth the trip.
This area allows camping, provides horseback riding through the rainforest to the falls, and swimming for the whole family.
This is a wonderful area and also provides activities like kayaking, tube floating down river, ultra light flying over the beach areas, and of course sport fishing.
