Their job is to sell you on their facility, location, and activities.
See how responsive the company is to your email request or telephone call to measure the level of service you can expect.
Also, make sure that published rates have not changed and that all amenities listed are available when you plan to go.
Several excellent resources include the Lonely Planet and Frommers forums . Here you will find travelers that have recently experienced areas you may be interested in and are discuss their opinions on tour operators and hotels.

Trying to find a safe beach or great surf?
Good question
Are the beaches in the area suitable for surfing, fishing, or family beach activities and do you have a map indicating where they are.
Bad question
Is the beach safe for my kids?
Can I surf close to your hotel?
These two questions provide the right answer for a sale.
Want a quiet area for lodging?
Good question
How far away are the local bars and party areas?
The question doesn't tell the proprietor what you are looking for.
Bad question
Is it quiet at the hotel?
If an innkeeper knows you want quiet he will tell you its quiet!
I don't mean to infer that dishonest answers are commonplace here. I would recommend these tactics anywhere you vacation. Ask the question without helping them give you the answer you are looking for.
