Getting Married in Costa Rica is easy but follow these guidelines to prevent snags in your plans.
These requirements are for foreign visitors (not Costa Rican) only. They apply to husband and wife.
♦ Passport valid for six months or longer
♦ Certified copy of birth certificates
♦ Certified copy of police record where you live
♦ Affidavit of single status
♦ Two witnesses (with passports good for six months or more)
The marriage certificate is processed by the Civil Registry in Costa Rica about two months after the marriage. The marriage certificate must be translated into English by an accredited source in order for the USA to recognize that you are getting married in Costa Rica. This translated document is forwarded to the US Embassy in Costa Rica.
Many hotels and resorts are able to help you with the process. Step 1 is to decide where you want to get married. After that you can contact the resort and work out the details with them locally.
Another perk when getting married in Costa Rica is that many of the hotels have special service and packages just for you!
Contact the hotel and confirm the requirements listed above!
